Improving the overall experience of fitness apps.

This app was designed as a project for an online Product design course organized by Block Knowledge which I participated in.

Overview

About the project

Sfit is a mobile fitness app I designed for people with little or no time to hit the gym, and for those who desire to keep fit but need some sort or reminder to get moving daily. Users can have access to workout routines based on their fitness levels and also set daily reminders to keep moving.

Sfit app allows users to also have access to available fitness coaches on the platform, but this will be limited to those on the pro plan.

Background

Fitness is an essential part of our lives which we often neglect until we run into certain health challenges due to bad eating habits and unhealthy lifestyle.

Also with the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, people had need to distance themselves and avoid crowded places, which resulted to reduction in the gyms. Home workout became the order of the day.

Research shows that a lot of people are currently facing health challenges due to lack of exercising and poor eating habits. Some people don’t exercise due to the fact that they have little or no time to go to the gym, some others don’t know how to get started or even know the right kind of meals to eat to loose weight or keep fit.

Although there are lots of existing fitness apps, some are not user friendly and hence users still have issues finding their way around these apps. The aim of Sfit is to create an easy to use fitness app that helps users develop the habit of working out daily, and tracking their daily progress (activity, meal, nutrition intake, workout. etc.) and also stay motivated while using the app.

The problem

Many people today especially in Nigeria where I come from, a lot of people want to stay fit and healthy due to the awareness of health hazards associated with lack of exercise and eating the wrong meals, but staying fit could be expensive especially if you have to patronize a standard gym or personal trainer.

Some others struggle to keep up but give up at some point due to lack of motivation, while others don’t even have enough time to hit the gym due to their very busy schedules.

For my project I thought to design a fitness app that aims at motivating users to exercise daily, show as well as provide knowledge about calories contained in food we consume here in Nigeria. It also provides access to fitness coaches at fair prices.

The app can be used by anyone who has interest in keeping fit, but I narrowed the meal ordering part of the app for just Nigerians.

The solution

Competitive Analysis

There are lots of competitors out there, from Apple health to Samsung health app, and many more, but most of them are still a bit complicated especially for those who aren’t very tech savvy.

Story Board

I created a storyboard as one of the deliverables for my app. I designed the storyboard using canva. You can view here

Personas

Based on my findings, I went ahead to create user personas and also to help in making design decisions.

After creating the personas , I went ahead to create the low fidelity wireframes and then moved to design the high fidelity wireframes.

High Fidelity Wireframes

This app was designed as a part of my learning process, I haven’t decided if I would be developing the app or not.
